Absolutely. That’s exactly what I did. Find some tablature online so you can figure out what chords to play, and then just play along with the cd or something. This is great for learning rhythm guitar… one you have the basics down, an instructor would probably be helpful for learning how to play lead guitar.

I am totally self taught and I am now a high school guitar teacher. Watch instructional video online, there are a lot of free guitar resources online, and take a good look at posture and hand position. the fundamental is really important if you want to play well. because there is no one to correct your mistake, you must really be conscientious about correcting yourself.

Check out Mike Herberts website, http://www.6-string-videos.com, he has quite a lot of free guitar videos, if you sign up(FREE) he’ll send you free video on a weekly basis, and they are very good.

freeguitarvideo.com is also a good website.

For tabs you can go to
    ultimate-guitar.com

guitar pro is a pretty good program, but you can get almost the same thing with Power Tab and it is FREE….

Like any instrument, if you want to be good at it, you need to practice a lot. Watch a lot of video and listen to lots of music. Start slow, be patient, ask your friend for help if you got stuck.

    Good Luck and have fun
